Why be certified in Job Demands Analysis?

A Job Demands Analysis (JDA) certification can be very useful for kinesiology students to take. Being capable and trained in providing this service is beneficial for many reasons, which will be covered in the following sections.

What is a Job Demands Analysis

A job or physical demands analysis (JDA or PDA) is a report conducted to quantify and evaluate the physical demands required for a given task. It evaluates both essential and non-essential aspects of a job and ensures that it is compliant with the law. A JDA can be used in various settings such as determining rehabilitation goals or physicians setting restrictions after an injury. In this course, the focus will be predominantly on examining a workers's work abilities to perform a given task.

Reasons to be Certified

  • Core Competency in Kinesiology

    Registered Kinesiologists must be competent in ergonomics, functional assessments, functional job coaching and cognitive work capacity assessments.

    Employers use JDAs for many reasons, because of that, they are in high demands. JDAs are used for ergonomic assessments, for legislative purposes, for performing job matches and for return to work.

Kevin is a graduate from the University of Waterloo with over 20 years of experience in teaching Functional Evaluations. Kevin is a faculty member at University of Guelph-Humber, teaching courses in Occupational Biomechanics and Functional Capacity Evaluations. He currently teaches for the Graduate Diploma in Professional Kinesiology at Lakehead University.
